September 30, 2005, Newsletter Issue #28: Pomegranate Juice Power

Tip of the Week

What`s the all-natural product has been called...

* the original forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden
* the new one-a-day that keeps doctors away (First for Women on the Go)
* better than your morning cup of coffee
* a heart attack-buster
* three times as beneficial as red wine and green tea
* a cholesterol-fighter
* a macular degeneration prevention elixir

Give up? It`s pomegranate juice, hailed by scientists from Israel to Italy as the next major source of antioxidants, and ancient cultures swore by it. After all, pomegranates tempted the Greek goddess Persephone into sticking with Hades, God of the Dead, and some scholars think that delicious pomegranate juice made Eve say, "Eden? What Eden?" A study by Dr. Dean Ornish (funded by POM Wonderful) showed that heart patients who drank pomegranate juice three times daily had slightly greater blood flow than those who didn’t partake.

Organic pomegranate juice is available from grocery and health food stores, or can have a plentiful supply right in your own kitchen. You can juice pomegranates by hand with a regular orange press by cutting the pomagranate in falf, or by using a blender or food processor to process the seeds, then straining the pits out.

You may get the most benefit from drinking pomegranate juice, and you can also make healthy jellies, sorbets, and sauces. It can be a natural flavoring in cakes and desserts.

To enjoy increased health and vitality, drink pomegranate juice.
